Wear ME // Pop Up Retail Store by Gordon Holden // 3217 Beverly Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90057
September 15 - September 22, 2017
PAUL LOYA GALLERY is proud to present WEAR ME, a pop up retail exhibition by LA based artist,
Gordon Holden. Since recently moving from our Culver City location, this is the first of our quarterly
pop up exhibition program. WEAR ME opens on Friday, September 15th and will run until September
22nd, 2017. We will be hosting an opening reception on Friday night from 7 -10pm.
Wear ME addresses consumerism and the intersection between brand loyalty and personal narrative
in visual culture. Branding has become synonymous with the self in this media saturated world. As a
result, entertainment and trends surpass utility and functionality in the scramble for a defined identity.
Brands and their logos become the default idol signifying worthiness and sense of belonging to the
origins it has nothing to do with.
Gordon Holden is a Los Angeles and is orginally from Hartford, Conneticut. After graduating from
the University of Vermont, never having studied fine arts, he soon discovered that the only
way to live in a world that strives for perfection is to do just the opposite. His work captures
visual and tactile expression through the backwards mishmash of an osmosis of pop culture
and personally-derived abstract apprehension. This complex marriage of playful curiosity and
cynical observation produces works that are both whimsical and thought-provoking. He describes
his creation’s as a collection of things to like and things to dislike.
